Intelligent Transport Systems
Australian roads are controlled by systems such as SCATS and STREAMS. The underlying communications infrastructure has slowly evolved out of dedicated leased lines (PAPL) and into ADSL over copper, fibre optic and wireless.
The international Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) framework and a set of standards (i.e. IEEE802.11p) and technologies (i.e. DSRC and WAVE) provide a roadmap for implementation. ITS goals are to reduce operating costs, improve safety and maximise capacity and utilisation of existing infrastructure.
ITS applications for road traffic worldwide commonly include:
Control of traffic signals
Variable Message Signs (VMS)
Closed-circuit television (CCTV)
Wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) access
Solcomm can provide a comprehensive set of wireless solutions, comprising point-to-point backhaul and point-to-multipoint distribution for ITS applications. We can design licensed or free-to-air operation, based on customer requirements.
We are currently working on the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) with DM Roads and the Western Program Alliance for VIC Roads.
We have been previously part of the Gateway WA Project undertaken by Main Roads WA.
