Planning for sustainability

Visual pollution is a major concern in urban deployments of telecommunications infrastructure. That is why the City of San Diego, USA, has taken positive steps via urban planning, to minimise the visual impact of wireless facilities. Some of the approaches taken include:

  • Concealment in existing structures or use of camouflage
  • Screening to hide or blend into the surrounding areas
  • Design aesthetically pleasing structures that are respectful of the neighbourhood context.
  • Conceal equipment in underground vaults or unobtrusive structures
