5G, IoT and Environmental Monitoring
Proliferation of the 5G cellular infrastructure has become visually obstrusive, triggering community concerns on EME radiation. The Federal Government has responded to these concerns with a public consultation and a review of the carrier powers and immunities framework.
The recent announcement of acquisition of nuclear submarines by Australia and the presence of atomic reactors on Australian land has additionally sparked debate around atomic energy and the perils of atomic radiation.
This paper provides a scientific view on the subject of radiation and how the risks of potential exposure are managed. Both ionising and non-Ionising radiation are dealt with. An extensive supporting bibliographic reference in provided in appendix for the more interested reader.
With a particular focus on 5G and the regulatory deployment framework, this paper addresses radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation and the best-practice to minimise the risks of exposure, for occupational and for the general public.
